Marriage is one of those topics that I think the church tends to shy away from addressing. You know those topics like living together before marriage, abortion, same sex marriage, submission, and tithing; all those topics that might upset someone in the church if you speak out about them. Or, all of those topics that the church is slowly losing ground on because we are afraid of stepping on the toes of others, or appearing judgmental.
Well, I think marriage is one of those areas that every church should be addressing and helping people in and I am happy to say that my church finally did (or is in the process of) a whole series on marriage called, “God’s Not Grey” (to playoff the Fifty Shades of Grey uproar). I think the pastors have done a great job at teaching on the topic and addressing common issues in marriage.
I can see God moving through the messages in our congregation. Many couples have started to face and address issues in their marriage and it seems like many people are in the process of working towards healing and reconciliation in their marriage.
If marriages fall apart, whole families fall apart. If marriages can be restored and healed, then whole families can be healed and kept together.
The God’s Not Grey link takes you to the church website where you can listen to the sermons that are part of the series. I would encourage you to listen to some or all of them if you are married or might be married in the future. I receive no compensation or anything like that for this link, it is just something I thought was important to share.
